Nagula Chavithi Festival: Celebrating the Worship of Serpent Gods for Health and Prosperity
Nagula Chavithi holds great religious and spiritual significance among Hindus. This festival is dedicated to worshipping Snake Gods, Who are an integral part of Hinduism and are mainly worshipped by almost everyone. Nagas are associated with all the Gods. Lord Shiva carries Naga Vasuki, and Mansa Devi is also the daughter of Lord Shiva. Shesha Naga is associated with Lord Vishnu.
In Hinduism, the Naga, or serpent, also represents kundalini energy, which symbolizes spiritual power, transformation, and awakening. Nagas represent both protection and hidden wisdom and are considered guardians of sacred places or pilgrimage sites.
The festival of Nagula Chavithi is mainly celebrated in South India specially in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. On this sacred day, devotees worship Naga Devta by performing various puja rituals. On this very day, women observe fast and seek the blessings of the Naga Gods. According to astrology, Nagas or snakes represent the Rahu and Ketu planets. 1. Wake up early and take a holy bath before starting puja rituals.
2. You must clean the house and puja room where you want to place an altar.
3. Draw an image of Naga Devta on a paper and keep it, where you placed an altar.
4. Light a diya with desi ghee and light incense sticks.
5. Offer flowers, and homemade sweets such as laddoos, made of rice flour and jaggery.
6. People perform puja with cow milk, turmeric, kumkum bananas, and thamboolam which is a combination of betel leaves and betel nuts, rice flour is also an important part of the puja ritual.
